"From Castor Oil to Ice Cream"

       Over the last 15 years Hopkins & Company has been the only public finance firm, and Samuel G. Hopkins the only professional, to be involved in all the bond and note issues of the city of Philadelphia. Referring to Mr. Hopkins’s role in the fiscal crisis of 1990, a senior officer of S&P said as the City was finally upgraded, "Sam is the survivor. He is here when it is ice cream, but he was here when it was castor oil."
